Self-assessment:

At the beginning of the semester, I was expecting my English class to go completely different as it did. I learned so much and I was able to expand my horizons when it comes to my writing. i feel like every essay that I did is so different than the other and I like that. In my personal opinion, I feel like I could have done way better if I hadn’t had so many things going on in my life mentally and physically.
I love writing and I love reading but for some reason, this class has been a little hard for me. I haven’t been able to concentrate and do a good job showing my writing skills. Even though, I feel like I did a good job applying what I learned in class.
Like I mentioned in my cover letter, I already knew most of the things that the professor taught, but I just didn’t actually know what they were or how they were named. I didn’t know the professional way of using them.
I have learned that linguistic standards, which are the accepted norms of language usage in a given community, play a critical role in shaping both empowerment and oppression among language users. These standards, often institutionalized through education systems, media, and official documents, determine what is considered “correct” or “proper” language. Attitudes towards these standards can profoundly affect individuals’ social mobility, identity, and access to opportunities.
I also learned that Rhetorical questions are questions asked to make a point or to provoke thought rather than to elicit an actual response. They are often used as a persuasive device in writing and speech and I use them a lot, especially during my attention-getters
One thing I definitely didn’t know was about ethos, logos, and pathos. It was nice learning new things and perfecting my writing skills. I am sure that next time I have to write an essay or a story I will be prepared to ace it thanks to this class.
